Konig, P., and Godfrey, S. (1973). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 48, 513. Prevalence ofexercise-induced bronchial lability in families ofchildren with asthma. Exercise tests and skin tests were performed in 65 members of the families of 12 children with asthma. A positive response to skin and exercise challenge frequently, but not invariably, occurred together. Abnormal exercise-induced bronchial lability was found in 33% of relatives with a past history of asthma, in 40% of those with hay fever, and in 32% of the clinically healthy relatives. The subjects with active asthma chiefly had a tendency to bronchoconstriction, while the other labile subjects chiefly had a tendency to bronchodilatation. The total proportion of all subjects affected by clinically evident atopic diseases, positive skin tests, or increased bronchial lability was 85%. The importance of using

Prevalence of atopy and exercise-induced bronchial lability in relatives of patients with cystic fibrosis.
Skin tests and exercise tests were performed on children with cystic fibrosis (CF) and first-degree relatives of CF children. Positive skin tests were found in 56% of patients and 19% of relatives, but the prevalence of atopy in CF patients bore no relationship to its prevalence in their relatives. Increased 0ronchial lability, mainly due to bronchoconstriction, was present in 54% of patients a...

to the severity of pulmonary involvement assessed clinically and radiologically, and with those found in asthmatic children and those with a history of wheezy bronchitis in early childhood. In patients with CF, bronchial lability was found even in those with minimal pulmonary involvement. The lability was due not only to bronchoconstriction but to a dilatation which was greater than occurs in n...

a history of wheezy bronchitis. Exercise tests were carried out on 18 children who had had wheezy bronchitis under the age of 5 years during hospitalization 7 years previously. A control group of 12 children who had been hospitalized with gastroenteritis at the same time were also studied. It was found that there was still a significant increase in bronchial lability among the wheezy bronchitis...
متن کاملPrevalence of asthma-related symptoms and bronchial responsiveness to exercise in children aged 13-14 yrs in Barcelona, Spain.
It is not clear whether asymptomatic bronchial responsiveness is a risk factor for development of asthma. A cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the prevalence of asthma among schoolchildren from Barcelona (Spain). The association between respiratory symptoms and bronchial responsiveness to exercise was examined. For this study 3,033 schoolchildren aged 13-14 yrs were studied from t...
متن کاملExercise-induced bronchial hyperresponsiveness and parental ISAAC questionnaire responses.
The predictive value of parental questionnaire responses for exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in childhood asthma has not been fully clarified. The aim of this study was to compare exercise-induced bronchial hyperresponsiveness in 7 year old children with parental responses to core questions in the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) study. A cross-sectional stu...
